McLaren’s Martin Whitmarsh has declared himself ‘happy’ with the performance improvements the Woking based outfit will introduce for the next race in China.
The team are gunning for their 150th pole position in Shanghai in a fortnight, and whilst such a feat looks likely with Lewis Hamilton having secured the last two, Whitmarsh isn’t taking it for granted.
“A 150th pole for the team would be a great result but a lot of things can happen before then,” he’s quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
“China comes after a three-week gap and all of the teams will be pressing to improve their cars, including ourselves, and it’s as simple as that: if someone has improved their car more than us then they could come out of the box even quicker than us in China.”
However, not resting on their laurels, Whitmarsh says the team has found extra performance from the MP4-27, which he hopes will keep them ahead of their rivals.
“We’re not complacent,” he added. “We have to improve our car, we have to find performance improvements – and fortunately we have.
“Whether they’re enough remains to be seen, but I think we are quite happy with the programme we have put together.”
