F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, has admitted that we could well see Stefan GP on the grid as early as China this season.
Speaking after it was announced that an engine and chassis deal between Toyota and the Serbian-based team had collapsed, the British billionaire told SpeedTV, “I think they’ve come together now with some ideas. We have to find a way.”
Asked when he thought Stefan would grace the already extended 12-team F1 grid, Ecclestone said, “They won’t be there for sure for the first two or three races, whether they’ll be there after that, we’ll have to see.”
The 79-year old did admit, however, that entry to Stefan GP may rely on one of the current teams on the grid having problems and possibly pulling out, “I don’t know [if they would just be an addition to the grid], I doubt it because it’s not fair to the others… But imagine one of these other people was in a little bit of a trouble?” he continued.
“I’m happy to have America, and I’d be happy if we had Serbia in, it’s another country. The more countries, the better it is.”
