Lotus has been forced to relocate from its hospitality unit in the Sepang pitlane following a fire which destroyed it on Saturday morning.
The team managed to save some items, including overalls and boots from both Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean’s private rooms, but one of the Finn’s spare helmets were destroyed.
It’s kitchen area is also out of action, which promoted the following statement from the team: “The team asks for forgiveness for certain personnel who have entered the fire-damaged facility as they will be rather smoke-fragranced today. Many team members may also look rather hungry for a short time.”
The outfit’s marketing and hospitality teams have been relocated to a spare unit next to Marussia at the end of the paddock.
The on-track operations are unaffected as it’s engineering crew are located in a separate building within the pit building.
It’s believed an electrical fault with one of the fridges in the unit caused the blaze in the early hours.
