Renault given the green light to improve engine

Renault has been given the green light to make improvements to it’s engine after the French manufacturer contacted the FIA earlier this year, regarding ‘equalisation’.

The Mercedes engine is thought to be the best on the grid – with an expected power advantage over it’s rivals; Cosworth, Ferrari and Renault.

The improvements however cannot be power upgrades as the FIA failed to find any evidence that it was a less-powerful engine when compared to the others.

The changes can only be related to cost and reliability issues which will come as a relief to Red Bull, who are a customer of the Renault engine and have suffered serious reliability issues over the past few years.

Changes to make the engine more fuel efficient were also rejected as it is thought to be the most efficient engine already. This backed up by the fact the Ferrari cars ran with 10kg more fuel than Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull in Bahrain.
