Conway tops timesheets in second Roar practice session

Mike Conway headed up the second practice session for the 2021 Roar Before the 24, setting a 1:36.225 in his #31 Cadillac DPi-V.R car for Action Express Racing.

He shares this car with Felipe Nasr, Pipo Derani and Chase Elliott, but none of his teammates could match his pace over one lap in the hour and 15 minute session.

Next quickest was Juan Pablo Montoya in Meyer Shank Racing’s #60 Acura ARX-05, just 6 thousandths of a second slower. In third was another Cadillac, #01 Scott Dixon for Chip Ganassi Racing, 3 tenths off the leader.

In LMP2, #29 ORECA 07-Gibson Racing Team Nederland’s Charles Milesi set the pace, on a 1:37.991 after missing out on action in the opening session.

Mikkel Jensen for #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA 07-Gibson, was second in P2, just five-hundreths off Milesi, followed by #8 Tower Motorport By Starworks’ Matthieu Vaxiviere.

LMP3 was topped by Laurents Hörr on a 1:43.500, driving the #6 Muehlner Motorsports America Duqueine M30-D08, with Rolex 24 winner Joao Barbosa following almost 7 tenths behind for #33 Sean Creech Motorsports Ligier JS P320.

Former McLaren SP driver Oliver Askew, driving the #74 Riley-Robinson Ligier JS P320, closed out the top 3 positions in the class.

In GTLM, former BMW works driver Alexander Sims topped the timesheets for #4 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R with a 1:44.062, with the #24 BMW M8 GTE of Augusto Farfus slotting into second in class. Closing out the top 3 in the lead GT class was Jules Gounon in the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTE Evo.

Finally, in the GTD class, Ed Jones led in the #63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo on a 1:46.731, with the #57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Russell Ward in second and third being taken by another Mercedes, Raffaele Marciello in the #75 SunEnergy1 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
