Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus looks set make its FIA World Endurance Championship debut at the revised season opener at Portimao.

The American privateer originally stated that it would sit out the opening round at Sebring, but that round was replaced by an eight-hour race at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao earlier on Friday.

With the season opener now taking place two weeks later and considerably closer to Podium Advanced Engineering’s base in Italy, where the 007 Le Mans Hypercars are being constructed, it would allow Glickenhaus to make its series debut at the opening round in Portugal.

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus has stated in correspondence with MotorsportWeek.com that it is aiming to be on the grid in Portugal.

Additionally, the team says that it is planning to announce what it calls a ‘major worldwide sponsorship deal’ in the coming week, as well as the remainder of the driver line-up for its two-car effort.

Gustavo Menezes and Ryan Briscoe were confirmed as the first two drivers for the programme on Thursday.

Were Glickenhaus to make the grid for the first race of the Hypercar era, the field would be boosted to the full five entries that were announced previously with the two Glickenhaus cars joining Toyota’s two GR010 Hybrids and the Alpine A480 LMP1 machine.
