Ben Edwards will join David Coulthard in the commentary box at the BBC in 2012, replacing Martin Brundle who joins Sky Sports.
Edwards has vast experience having held a similar position commentating on Formula 1 for Eurosport as well as the doomed F1 Digital+ channel in 2002.
Edwards confirmed the news on Twitter: “So, it looks as though it’s really happening. I will be the BBC F1 commentator in 2012 and I can’t wait!
“It took a while for things to be sorted, and thanks to ITV for being so understanding. Really looking forward to working with the crew.”
He joins Coulthard, anchor Jake Humphrey, Eddie Jordan, and pit-lane reporter Lee McKenzie.
Edwards has also worked on A1 GP Series, Superleague Formula and the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).
