Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari came away from Felipe Massa’s karting event as the eventual winner having been handed the win after Jules Bianchi was disqualified.
The annual International Challenge of Go-Kart Champions, held in Florianopolis and organised by Massa, puts a whole host of drivers against one another over a two-day event.
Bianchi won race one on Saturday with Alguersuari second and Massa third.
The second race on Sunday saw the same two men at the top with Lucas di Grassi in third and Rubens Barrichello fourth. Bianchi was later disqualified after his kart failed to meet the weight requirements during post-race checks.
That handed the victory to Alguersuari as well as the overall event win to the Spaniard, who later admitted feeling sorry for Bianchi.
“I feel sorry for Jules, but rules are for everybody,” he said. “Anyway, the important thing is to be part of a big party like this. I love to come to Brazil and Florianópolis, and I look forward to being here again next year.”
Among the aforementioned drivers, others included: Jerome D’Ambrosio, Tonio Liuzzi, Adrian Sutil and Pastor Maldonado, plus ex-racers Nelson Piquet Jr, Antonio Pizzonia, Luciano Burti, Ricardo Zonta, Enrique Bernoldi, Christian Fittipaldi and Gianni Morbidelli.
