Manager denies Kubica won’t be ready in 2012

Robert Kubica’s manager, Daniele Morelli, has denied that the Pole won’t be ready for the start of the 2012 season, despite Renault saying so in a statement on Wednesday.

Morelli believes Renault have twisted Kubica’s words to make out that he wouldn’t be ready to race next season, but in actual fact, he was only referring to the pre-season tests in February.

“I came to the conclusion that I am not yet certain to be ready for the 2012 season,” said Kubica in a statement. “I have called the team and I have informed them of the situation.”

However, in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Morelli said there remains hope that Kubica can race in Australia.

“I don’t understand why Renault has changed Robert’s words,” said Morelli. “It’s not true he won’t be ready for 2012: he stated he doesn’t have certainty that he will be in shape for the first tests in February.

“We count on and hope to be ready, but in any case the delay will be a few months, 2013 was never mentioned. Renault will go its way with regards to the drivers, while we will look for alternative solutions.”

Morelli also denied that Kubica’s contract expires at the end of the 2012 season, something Renault claim, meaning he would be free to seek a drive elsewhere.

“[The contract] does not extend to 2012, it ends at the end of December, so from 1st January will we be free to go in whatever direction.”
