India will soon have two FIA grade one circuits in the near future following the announcement that a new facility will be constructed in Mumbai.
India is set to host its inaugural Formula 1 event at the Buddh International Circuit in New Delhi this weekend, but plans to construct a second circuit with the capability of hosting F1, 1,400km west, could see the Indian GP alternate between the two if plans are approved.
A private consortium made up of Capita Symonds, Populous – which designed the new Silverstone Arena section – and DIMTS (Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System Ltd), are working on project.
“We are committed to delivering the next generation of racing circuits, with great racing, overtaking, world class facilities and architecture,” said Jerry Muscroft, Capita Symonds business development director.
“But above all the intention is to create a sustainable venue that will not need continuous financial support, and will facilitate investment and re-generation.”
