Horner: We’ve done sub-two second stops

In a bid to win the pit-stop race, Red Bull have admitted to sending their pit crew to train with Olympians in Bisham Abbey.

The ban on refuelling means teams only have to pit to change tyres, this presents an opportunity to gain a few seconds over rival teams.

Red Bull’s Christian Horner told the Mirror newspaper that the training has paid off.

“The guys have trained like hell over the winter,” he said.

“They have all lost weight and got fitter in the process. The guys have been training in the gym at 12 and 4pm every day since November.

Williams recently stated that sub-three second stops would become the norm, however the Red Bull boys set an unofficial record of 1.8 seconds.

“We have done sub-two second stops. They are absolutely lightning.

“We’ve always been fast but now there’s been a lot more of a scientific approach to the whole issue.”

Teams have been spending hundreds of thousands trying to minimise the time taken to change all four tyres as quickly as possible, with Ferrari designing a special quick release wheel nut.
