Mark Webber says he’s certain he’ll win a race before the season ends in just seven races time after a dry spell running back to the Hungarian GP in 2010.
The Red Bull driver currently sits second in the Drivers’ Championship, 92 points behind seven-time winner and teammate Sebastian Vettel, yet he’s ahead of one-time winner Fernando Alonso and two-time winners Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.
His performances have seen him fail to finish outside the top five, but he’s yet to grace the top step of the podium in 2011. The Australian is certain that’ll come to an end very soon.
“It’s disappointing that I haven’t won a race yet this year but I’m sure it will happen before the year’s out,” he said in Monza. “I’m confident of that.
“I’ve been very, very strong and consistent which is also not always easy. You have many opportunities to make errors and mistakes but I’ve also done things that I’ve been very proud of this year, but the victory hasn’t yet happened.
“I’m sure it will come. I’m not getting too fired up about that to be honest. Like Nurburgring [2010], you know. It comes when you least expect it. If it’s this weekend, no better place to start than in Monza.”
