The teams have provisionally agreed that the return of in-season testing next season should take place at the Mugello circuit in Italy.
Representatives from all the teams met on Sunday morning prior to the Belgian Grand Prix to discuss the matter. Silverstone, Barcelona, Jerez and Mugello were all options, but the latter was chosen.
It’s believed the smaller teams were lobbying for Silverstone to host the three-day event due to cost savings involved with two-thirds of the teams based in the United Kingdom.
However, unpredictable weather meant Mugello came out on top, a circuit which will offer similar costs savings as it is owned by the Ferrari outfit who have agreed to help with organising the test.
The agreement firms up the teams pre-season and in-season testing calendar with the first action taking place at Jerez on February 7th, before moving to Barcelona for a further two tests between the 21st and 24th, ending with a four-day test between March 1st and 4th.
The in-season test will likely happen before the first European GP on the 2012 calendar, Spain, which takes place on the weekend of May 13th.
