McLaren have been fined €5,000 (£4,442) for their unsafe release of Jenson Button during his second pit-stop at the British GP.
The McLaren driver was forced to retire after it became apparent that his front-right wheel hadn’t been properly secured.
The team’s chief engineer, the man who controls the lollipop, failed to spot that the front-right mechanic hadn’t put his hand up to confirm he had finished securing the wheel.
The stewards found the team in breach of regulation 23.1 (j) of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulation.
As a result of Button’s DNF, he dropped from 2nd to 5th in the championship standings, equal on points to teammate Lewis Hamilton.
