The Formula 1 teams will meet later this morning, at 10:30am (BST) to be more precise, to discuss the ongoing off-throttle exhaust-blown diffuser saga which has tarnished the British GP.

The FIA has given the teams a chance to return to pre-Silverstone regulations which will permit the use of off-throttle gases being fed through the diffuser at any rate.

According to paddock sources, 10 of the 12 teams have agreed to go back on this weekends decisions, but both Sauber and Williams are still considering the consequences.

They may not agree after both teams achieved their best qualifying results of the season, the former with Pastor Maldonado securing seventh, whilst Kamui Kobayashi took eighth.

If a single team opts not to sign the document, the current rules in force at Silverstone will remain for the rest of the season and will likely cause further controversy.

Williams technical director, Sam Michael, said on Saturday that he would now sit down with his teams engine supplier to discuss the matter having heard both sides of the argument at an extraordinary meeting of the Technical Working Group yesterday morning.

“I’ve heard all the arguments and now I need to sit down with Cosworth and our guys to see what our position is,” he said, adding: “How that is going to affect tomorrow I don’t know yet.”
