Important we get a good home result – Renault

Renault team principal Eric Boullier says it’s ‘important’ that his outfit secure a good points haul at their home race next weekend.

The team had a promising start to the season with two podium finishes in the first two races, Australia and Malaysia, but have since struggled to repeat such success.

“I think it’s important as an English company, and as an English F1 team, to do well at your home race because there’s more local attention,” he said.

“It’s also a tough fight because most teams on the grid are English as well, so it makes it even more exciting.”

Boullier believes the Silverstone track characteristics will better suit their car, the R31, than the previous two races in Montreal and Valencia which feature slower corners, unlike Silverstone which has fast, flowing turns.

“The Silverstone track layout is very good, and we’ve seen many overtaking manoeuvres here in the past so we can expect a strong show and a spectacular race,” he added.

“Considering the races in Monaco and Valencia and our performance there, we can definitely expect the high speed corners to suit our car much better.”
