British sportscar racer Katherine Legge has suffered injuries to her leg and wrist in a high-speed crash in testing for the European Le Mans Series at Circuit Paul Ricard.

Legge was driving the Richard Mille Racing Team ORECA 07-Gibson, which she shares with Alfa Romeo F1 test driver Tatiana Calderon and Formula 3 racer Sophia Floersch.

The 40-year-old crashed the car at the Signes corner at the end of the Mistral Straight towards the end of the morning, after which the session was red flagged.

According to a series statement, Legge remained concious and was taken to the circuit medical center, where she was said to have been diagnosed with a broken bone in her lower left leg and a broken right wrist.

But while the ELMS initially stated Legge had suffered a broken wrist, IMSA racer Andy Lally later claimed on social media having spoken to Legge’s father that the wrist was sprained rather than broken.

I just spoke to Kat’s Dad. Her wrist is not broken, just sprained but her broken leg will require surgery. She’s a little groggy but was asking the doctors if she will be healed enough to race at Road America in two weeks. 💪🏽 Stay strong as always @katherinelegge !

The championship has said Legge’s injuries are not life threatening and that she has been transported to the Sainte Anne hospital in Toulon by helicopter.

She was replaced for the opening round of the championship by WEC racer Andre Negrao.
