Webber: ‘Staying at Red Bull makes sense’

Mark Webber says it makes more sense to stay at Red Bull than to jump ship to Ferrari, where speculation is rife that the Italian outfit are looking to oust Felipe Massa.

The Australian made the comments during an interview with Sport Bild, though he was clearly frustrated with all the talk centered around his team-mate, Sebastian Vettel.

When asked if he spoke to the young German outside of the sport, he replied: “No. Why? There is no reason for it.”

He was further pushed on the matter and asked if he consulted with the 23-year-old over the Bahrain GP, of which Webber was very outspoken about.

“Let’s put it this way, I am 34-years-old, I read the newspaper. Why should I ask him for his opinion? We have too many things of a different opinion.”

Matters were only made worse after the interviewer suggested that the team might encourage team orders now that they are legal, to ensure Vettel secures his second title.

“Rubbish that will not happen,” he claimed, adding in frustration: “Anyway, why do we always have to talk about Sebastian? If you want to know about him, ask him yourself.”

In a bid to escape the tense situation at Red Bull, many believe Webber could opt to leave and join Ferrari on a short-term basis, but Webber says it makes more sense to stay with the Milton Keynes based outfit in 2012.

“I will decide in the coming months. Ferrari radiates something special, but the most sense would be to stay at Red Bull.”
