Timo Glock says he backs the teams decision to split from Wirth Research after a poor start to their second season. He called the move a ‘positive’ one.
The former-Jordan and Toyota driver has been with Virgin since their inception in 2010. His results haven’t been what he expected, his best finish is 14th at the Chinese GP last year.
Glock hopes the split will allow the team to move forward, but he admitted it wasn’t the easiest of decisions.
“It is the right move. We all want to move forward and the team wasn’t happy with the performance of the car so they made the decision,” he told Autosport in Canada.
“A change like this is never the easiest, but to move on in the long-term it is very positive.”
The 29-year-old admitted the team were looking to 2012 to make a step forward, as making up the current gap to the midfield isn’t an achievable target during the current season.
“Next year is the main target,” he said. “We know that we cannot find three seconds in a couple of months, then it becomes the changeover point for 2012. We have to try to get a bit out of this year and put all of our focus onto next year.”
