Indian GP could move to December 11th slot

Bernie Ecclestone is reportedly looking at further delaying the Indian Grand Prix to December 11th in a bid to accomodate the return of the Bahrain GP.

As The F1 Times first revealed earlier this month, the original plans to slot Bahrain in, if the decision goes the country’s way on June 3rd, would be to push India’s debut back to December 4th.

Such a plan came under heavy criticism from team bosses, with Peter Sauber calling the idea ‘crazy’.

“I think it’s important that we be safe,” he said on Thursday in Monaco, adding: “The other point is that if we have three back-to-back races; that’s really crazy.”

Several others have expressed concern, but Ecclestone is now considering a plan which would further push the season into the December month.

The idea of having Brazil and India back-to-back has been scrapped on the basis that it would be near impossible to transport all of the teams equipment from Sao Paulo to New Delhi, a distance of almost 10,000 miles, in just three days.

Ecclestone is now discussing the idea with the teams and a decision, or further clarity at least, is expected on June 3rd when the Bahraini organisers, the FIA and Ecclestone will convene to announce whether or not the race will return.
