IMSA has unveiled an update schedule for the Weathertech Sportscar Championship, hoping to return to racing with a sprint round at Daytona International Speedway in July and finishing with the Twelve Hours of Sebring in November.

The revised calendar, unveiled on Friday, is IMSA’s roadmap for returning to racing competition. The season will resume on July 3-4 with a 2 hour and 40 minute sprint round at Daytona International Speedway, which will be held behind closed doors. This will be the first time a sprint race is held at Daytona since 2009, when a race was ran there under the Grand-Am banner.

The championship then remains in Florida for an additional round at Sebring International Raceway on July 17-18, also behind closed doors, before going to Road America on July 31 – August 2 and Virginia International Raceway on August 21-23.

September sees the championship travel to Weathertech Laguna Seca for round six, held on September 4-6 before travelling to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on September 25-27.

The Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, usually held in the summer, has been moved to the weekend of October 2-4. This means it now directly clashes with the SRO’s Indianapolis 8 Hours as part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.

Petit Le Mans is now scheduled for October 14-17, but is not the traditional season finale as the championship holds two more rounds afterwards: another sprint round at Lime Rock Park on October 30-31 before closing the season with the previously postponed Twelve Hours of Sebring on November 11-14.

“IMSA is grateful to all of our promoter partners for collaborating with us to develop a revised schedule of outstanding events,” said IMSA President John Doonan. “Our No. 1 priority since March has been to get back to racing as safely and as quickly as possible, and this revised schedule is evidence of that. We appreciate the patience, cooperation, and input of our IMSA stakeholders, and we all are very much looking forward to going racing again this summer and putting on amazing races for our audience.”
