The FIA has given the organisers of the Bahrain Grand Prix until June 3rd to make a decision on whether or not the race will go ahea this year.
The regulatory body had previously set a date of May 1st, which has now come and gone.
The FIA has agreed to extend the deadline by over a month following calls from Bernie Ecclestone to give them more time, saying “things can change in a couple of weeks.”
A statement from the FIA announced the decision, saying they consulted the Bahraini authorities and Formula One Management [FOM].
“The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile has granted the Bahrain Motor Federation and the Bahrain International Circuit an extension until June 3 to decide whether or not it can host a Grand Prix in 2011.
“The decision was taken after consultation with the Bahraini authorities and Formula One Management.”
The decision will come at the next WMSC meeting in Barcelona which will be held on the same date of June 3rd.
