A decision on whether or not the Bahrain Grand Prix will be rescheduled will be made ‘within hours’, according to an FIA source.
The opening race to the 2011 season was cancelled amid a political uprising in the country, which is yet to subside with Bahrainis still protesting at the government.
A deadline of May 1st was given to the organisers of the event, however that date has now passed without a decision.
According to an FIA spokesperson, a decision will be made within the next few hours and will be made public this Tuesday – many believe the race could go ahead in late November.
“The Bahrain government will let us know within this deadline whether they see the conditions [in which a race can be held] or they don’t,” the spokesperson told the BBC.
The organisers themselves released a statement last Saturday declaring their wish for F1 to return in the ‘very near future’, but they didn’t go as far as to specify a date.
