Webber open to a future at a different team

Mark Webber has dropped the first hint that he may consider a swtich to a different team at the end of the 2011 season if his Red Bull contract isn’t renewed.

The Australian is widely expected to retire at the end of the year if the Austrian team opted not to renew his one-year-deal, according to comments from team principal Christian Horner earlier this year.

It doesn’t seem to be quite as cut and dry though, with Webber questioning whether he would actually retire or actively look for a seat at another team.

“When this championship ends my contract with Red Bull does as well,” he told La Stampa. “But I don’t think it depends on the results; I want to win for me.

“We’ll see, if the team doesn’t want me anymore, I will have to ask myself a question – hang up my helmet or change teams?”

After narrowly missing out on the title in 2010, Webber says he’s determined to fight team-mate Sebastian Vettel, whom he labelled as ‘beatable’, despite the German taking three out of three poles, two race wins and a second place behind Lewis Hamilton, leaving Webber with a 31 point deficit.

“I’m determined [to beat him]. Last year I fought for the title and I want to do it again,” he added. “Sebastian is very fast and he now has a good amount of experience, but he’s not unbeatable. I prefer not to talk about his weaknesses, but we all have them.”
