The FIA say they are maintaining the May 1st deadline on whether or not the Bahrain Grand Prix will be rescheduled for later in the year.
That, despite Bernie Ecclestone saying the deadline could be extended until the late summer because “things can change in a couple of weeks.”
However the FIA haven’t yet agreed to any deadline extension, and say they are still on course to announce whether or not the race will go ahead as part of the 2011 season this Sunday or Monday.
“As far as we are concerned a decision is still due on Sunday,” a spokesperson told The Telegraph.
“Because it’s a weekend it may be Monday morning that we announce the decision, but we haven’t spoken to Mr Ecclestone about any delay.
“The decision will be a joint one between the FIA, Formula One Management [headed by Ecclestone] and the Bahrain authorities.”
If the race is to be rescheduled, it would likely be slotted in toward the end of the year, with the Abu Dhabi GP taking over the final slot in the calendar in early December.
