Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says his team head into the European leg of the championship in a bullish and confident mood as they’re certain they have what it takes to remain ahead.
The Milton Keynes based outfit have a healthy lead in both championships, though both were reduced after the Chinese GP following their first defeat of the season.
Lewis Hamilton stormed to victory ahead of Sebastian Vettel, closely followed by Mark Webber and Jenson Button, cutting Red Bull’s lead to just 20 points in the constructors’ title.
Horner is confident the team can out-develop their rivals though, and promises ‘good stuff’, in terms of updates, for the next few races.
“It’s way, way too early,” he said in reply as to whether his team felt in control of the championship. “We’re three races in, we’ve had a great start, we’ve had two wins and a second with Sebastian [Vettel] and a fifth, fourth and third with Mark [Webber].
“So it’s been a really positive start to the year and going back to Europe we’ve got some good stuff in the pipeline, and we can’t stand still because we know McLaren will keep pushing.”
Whilst McLaren remain their fiercest rival, the 39-year-old warned they shouldn’t discount Ferrari and Mercedes just yet.
“Ferrari, you can’t discount [them] as well. As we saw with Mercedes… [they were strong in] different stages of the race. It sounds like they had fuel issues in that last sector of the race, but he [Nico Rosberg] was a genuine contender at parts of the race.”
