Robert Kubica could be released from hospital within the next few days, according to reports coming from German news agency DPA.
The Polish driver was seriously injured in an unfortunate rallying accident prior to the start of the season. His Skoda Fabia hit some protective Armco fencing in Italy which entered the front of the car, exiting at the rear, narrowly missing Kubica and his co-pilot.
However, the Renault driver’s injuries were very severe with doctors reporting of a possible amputation to his hand. He is now recovering well after four major operations to mend several broken bones and his shattered right-hand.
He has spent just over eight weeks in hospital and is expected to leave this week to head home to continue his lenghtly recovery process which includes daily physiotherapy.
The risk of infection has now passed, according to the hospitals spokesperson, Roberto Carrozzino, which is why he has been given the all clear to leave hospital.
It will still be sometime before he can return to racing.
