Peter Sauber has denied that the team’s technical director, James Key, has lost his job over the rear-wing mix-up which cost Sauber ten points in Melbourne following their disqualification.
There were reports that Key had paid the ultimate price for not checking whether the wings met the technical regulations after they were found to be around 3mm out.
A thorough investigation into the matter at their Hinwil factory identified that a manufacturing error was to blame.
“I will send a clear message: There will be no layoffs,” Sauber told Swiss newspaper Blick.
The loss of ten points could potentially cost the team millions in sponsorship and prize payouts come the end of the season, as the total loss in Australia represents almost 27% of their 2010 haul.
That loss was reflected in Sauber’s comment: “The wounds are definitely far from being healed,” he added.
