The FIA has commented on the landmark Hypercar/DPi convergence announcement that was made at the Daytona International Speedway earlier today, saying it ‘warmly welcomes’ the announcement.

The Automobile Club de l’Ouest and IMSA announced the creation of the LMDh class during a press conference on Friday, which unifies the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Le Mans Hypercar class and the Daytona Prototype International category of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship.

The FIA has released a statement in response, which reads: ‘The FIA warmly welcomes today’s announcement by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) and the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) of the development of a technical platform that will enable manufacturers to develop cars eligible for competition in the top classes of both the FIA World Endurance Championship as well as the US-based IMSA series.’

Richard Mille, President of the FIA Endurance Commission, commented: “I am really happy about this new initiative which, without doubt, will strengthen our FIA World Endurance Championship. For sure this project will bring to the FIA WEC more Manufacturers and more competitors. The FIA will support this new class of prototypes with our trusted partner ACO.”
