IMSA confirms pre-Daytona BOP adjustments

IMSA has confirmed a number of Balance of Performance (BOP) adjustments ahead of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

In a technical bulletin sent to teams, the championship lines out a number of performance changes for the four classes competing in the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship.

The most notable change in DPi comes in the form of power reduction for the two Team Penske Acura ARX-05s, which have been hit with a 5 kW power reduction, which translates to rougly 6.7 horsepower. The Cadillac DPi-VRs have received a 10 kg weight break, while the fuel capacity for all cars have been increased: one liter for the Acuras and two for the Cadillac and Mazda runners. 

Mazda Team Joest and its RT24-Ps, which were the dominant factor during the Roar Before the 24 test, have not received any adjustments.

In LMP2, the Riley/Multimatic-Gibson, which is run at Daytona by Rick Ware Racing, has received aero adjustments, with the car now being allowed to run without the front dive planes and rear wicker flap in an attempt to increase top speed.

GTLM sees three out of four cars receive adjustments. The debuting Corvette C8.R has seen its restrictor diameter increased by 0.3mm, resulting in a 3.1 kW (4.15 hp) power increase. The Ferrari 488 GTE has received a 4.0 kW (5.4 hp) power cut, while the Porsche 911 RSR-19 has received a 10 kg weight increase.

All three cars have also all been hit with fuel capacity changes: five extra liters for Corvette, seven extra liters for Porsche and a decrease of one liter for Ferrari. The BMW M8 GTE, which serves as the performance baseline, has received no changes.

GTD features changes to a number of cars, with the Acura NSX GT3 Evo given a 25 kg weight increase while power is decreased by 5.6 kW (7,5 hp). The BMW M6 GT3 has been handed the biggest power decrease of all with 10 kW (13,4 hp), while the Ferrari 488 GT3 has also seen its power decreased by 3 kW (4 hp).

The Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo has seen its weight decrease by 10 kg, while the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo is the only car to have received aero changes as it is now required to run with a 4 mm minimum rear wing angle.

Finally, Acura (-2), Aston Martin (-4), BMW (-3) and Ferrari (-1) have all seen their fuel capacity decreased.
