Alex Lynn will leave Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA at the end of the 2026 season to join McLaren’s Hypercar programme, becoming the latest addition to the British manufacturer’s highly anticipated return to top-class endurance racing in 2027.
McLaren Racing has confirmed Alex Lynn as its third announced driver for its 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign, joining Mikkel Jensen and Laurens Vanthoor in the team’s new MCL-HY programme. The move comes as McLaren prepares to return to the top class of the WEC, with Lynn’s experience expected to be a valuable asset as the manufacturer builds its challenge.
The 33-year-old Briton arrives with an established record in endurance racing, having secured four Hypercar pole positions with Cadillac, including at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2025. He also helped Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA secure its first WEC victory with the V-Series.R at São Paulo, adding to a career that includes a Le Mans LMGTE Pro class win in 2020, two victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 2023 European Le Mans Series LMP2 title.
Lynn’s signing is a significant addition to McLaren’s preparations, bringing proven pace, technical knowledge and valuable experience of the current Hypercar field. With the manufacturer targeting success on its return to the WEC’s top category, his ambitions are equally clear: to fight for a world championship and win the 24 Hours of Le Mans with McLaren.
“I couldn’t be more driven towards winning a world title and taking victory at Le Mans for the most iconic racing brand in the world,” Lynn said.
His focus will first remain on completing the 2026 season with Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA before beginning the next chapter of his career in McLaren’s highly anticipated Hypercar effort.
