Pre-weekend favourite Marco Bezzecchi started the Indonesian MotoGP weekend strongly as he clinched top spot in FP1.
Unsurprisingly given its pace around Mandalika last season and its general form in 2026, the Aprilia riders started the weekend off strongly.
Bezzecchi’s banker lap was marginally quicker than team-mate Jorge Martin, as he led the majority of FP1 and went even faster on his final run to secure top spot with a 1:30.132.
Marc Marquez produced a late lap to move into second and split the Aprilia riders, with Martin taking third and 0.266s off his team-mate.
Pedro Acosta put himself into the mix in fourth, just 0.030s behind Martin’s best lap time, while Raul Fernandez completed the top five.
In a home race for its sponsors, the VR46 team started strongly in sixth and seventh as Franco Morbidelli led Fabio Di Giannantonio, as Fabio Quartararo slotted into eighth.
Fermin Aldeguer crashed in the session but took ninth ahead of team-mate Alex Marquez, who completed the top 10 ahead of a good start to the weekend for 11th-placed Alex Rins.
Enea Bastianini was 12th, while Francesco Bagnaia was the final rider within a second of Bezzecchi’s time but was frustrated in 13th.
Johann Zarco was 14th while Toprak Razgatlioglu took 15th, but may have found himself in trouble with the stewards after forcing Bagnaia into the gravel while cruising.
Brad Binder split the Pramac Yamaha team-mates as he slotted into 16th ahead of Jack Miller, while Luca Marini finished in 18th.
Maverick Vinales was 19th at the chequered flag, with Diogo Moreira 20th after crashing around 15 minutes into the session.
Ai Ogura suffered a heavy crash midway through the session and took 21st, while Aleix Espargaro stood in for Joan Mir and completed the standings in 22nd.
