Taking his second Moto2 victory of the 2026 campaign, Izan Guevara delivered a masterclass at the Austrian GP to trim Manuel González’s championship lead to 35.5 points.
Starting from fifth on the grid, Guevara snatched the race lead on the second lap following a chaotic opening sequence at the front. From there, the Spaniard managed his pace brilliantly, crossing the line with a comfortable two-second advantage over polesitter Filip Salač despite a minor late-race scare.
Off the line, championship leader Manuel González made a strong launch from P2 to secure the holeshot into Turn 1, but his advantage was short-lived as he swiftly plummeted down the order. Salač temporarily reclaimed the lead, but Ivan Ortolá and Guevara both capitalised on the opening laps to slip past the Czech rider.
Behind the frontrunners, a hard-charging David Alonso carved his way through from sixth on the grid. Alonso’s relentless push was rewarded on lap 15 when an error from Ortolá opened the door, allowing the Colombian to pounce and secure the final step of the podium.
Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez and Ivan Ortola rounded out the top 5, ahead of Alonso Lopez, Daniel Holgado and Barry Baltus.
Deniz Oncu and Luca Lunetta complete the Austrian GP top 10 ahead of Daniel Munoz, Jose Antonio Rueda and Aron Canet while Tony Arbolino and Joe Roberts finish the race P14 and P15 respectively.
It was a day to forget further down the field: Senna Agius endured a nightmare outing, eventually retiring after dropping down the order, while Alex Escrig joined him on the DNF list following a lap 10 crash at Turn 2.
