Michael Christensen says he is proud of his 2019 season, in which he became world champion in the FIA WEC and won the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

The Dane had a strong year in 2019, sealing the GTE Pro championship with Kevin Estre at the 24 Hours of Le Mans before winning the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps alongside Estre and fellow factory ace Richard Lietz on board GPX Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 R.

When asked about his year by Motorsport Week in Bahrain, Christensen replied:

“Yeah, closing the world championship title in Le Mans was great. You’re leading into 2019, but then the pressure’s on, you know Then. you’re like ‘well, we’ve got to pull it off’. Because we were leading by quite a margin and we knew we had the car and the team and we could pull it off, but you’ve just got to do it. It was on from then on.

So that was great and to finally close the deal in Le Mans, then winning the 24 Hours of Spa with Kevin [Estre] and Richard [Lietz] was great.”

Christensen then returned to the FIA World Endurance Championship to defend his crown with Estre, so far taking podium finishes in Silverstone and Fuji and a victory at the 4 Hours of Shanghai. The duo ends 2019 seconds in the standings, fourteen points behind Marco Sorensen and Nicki Thiim.

“And then, in the WEC, being on the podium and getting a win, so that’s great,” Christensen concluded. It’s been a good year, but also the year is a bit like two years in one, the feeling of it. So I’m really proud of this 2018/19 season.”
