Nicolo Bulega took victory in a straightforward Superpole Race to secure pole position for Race 2 of the French WorldSBK round.
Although teammate Iker Lecuona briefly challenged him for the lead, the Italian quickly reclaimed the front spot and held it to the line.
Behind them, an early battle between Sam Lowes and Alberto Surra played right into the hands of Yari Montella, who capitalised to move into fourth before a late crash inherited him the final podium spot behind Bulega and Lecuona.
Sam Lowes’ late mistake
Lowes and Surra had indeed continued their fierce duel for fourth, with Lowes ultimately crashing on the very last lap at the Estoril corner.
Alex Lowes secured fifth ahead of Tom Bridewell, who showed no ill effects from his heavy Race 1 crash. Team GoEleven’s Lorenzo Baldassarri took the checkered flag in seventh, just ahead of Remy Gardner in eigth, while Xavi Vierge for claimed the final point-scoring position in ninth for Pata Maxus Yamaha.
This top nine result establishes the front three rows for Race 2, led once again by Bulega, whereas Andrea Locatelli, Axel Bassani, Miguel Oliveira, Garrett Gerloff, Jake Dixon, and Álvaro Bautista will line up according to their original Superpole qualifying order.
