Tech3 KTM has announced Luca Marini will join the MotoGP team ahead of the regulation changes in the 2027 season.
Marini is set to bring a wealth of experience and a developmental mindset to both Tech3 and KTM, with one eye on getting the manufacturer back to winning ways with the rules reset.
The Italian rider joined the premier class in 2021 as Moto2 runner-up and has proved to be a consistent performer across his time with VR46 Ducati team and as a factory Honda rider.
Marini has been credited with helping steer the development of Honda, who moved up a concessions rank for this season thanks to his seventh finish in Valencia last year, due to his technical mindset and feedback.
KTM looks to bolster its lineup following the signings of Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio to the factory team – while Marini is likely to partner Senna Agius who is looking set for a promotion to the premier class.
The Austrian manufacturer is still searching for its first grand prix win since the 2022 Thai Grand Prix with Miguel Oliveira, and will be hoping to return to winning ways in the latest regulations cycle.
It is unconfirmed how long Marini’s contract will run for, however it has been confirmed that he has signed with Tech3 on a multi-year deal.
“Luca is a rider we have been watching closely, and we are very pleased to welcome him to Tech3 from 2027,” said Tech3 CEO Guenther Steiner.
“He brings a huge amount of experience, but also the right mentality and approach for what we are building here.
“2027 will be a big reset for MotoGP, so having a rider who can contribute to our progress in this new era will be important.
“Luca understands how to work at this level of the sport, whether it’s collaborating with the engineers, developing the bike or pushing forward in challenging circumstances.
“We are entering an exciting new chapter with KTM, and we believe Luca has the speed, experience and determination to help us achieve our goals.”
Nicolas Goyon, Tech3 Team Manager, added: “We are very happy to have Luca joining us from 2027.
“He has already shown his ability to perform at the highest level, and his experience in MotoGP will be extremely valuable as we enter this new chapter.
“He has a strong understanding of what is required from both the rider and technical side, and we are confident that he will be an important part of our progress with KTM.
“We are looking forward to working with him and seeing what we can achieve together.”
