MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez has confirmed that he will undergo surgery on Wednesday for a recurring shoulder problem.
The Honda rider injured his shoulder during qualifying for the Malaysian round earlier this month when he was thrown from his bike at Turn 2.
It was initially thought he'd escaped injury but during testing this week at the Jerez circuit the Spaniard crashed, and during a trip to the medical centre it transpired that he had actually injured his shoulder in Sepang, and then further aggravated the problem during his Jerez fall.
Honda has confirmed he will undergo an operation on his right shoulder on Wednesday at Barcelona's Dexeus-Quiron Hospital.
"Marc Marquez will now travel to Barcelona for an operation on his right shoulder at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus-Quiron on Wednesday, November 27.
"The Repsol Honda Team rider has elected to have the operation as a preventative measure after medical consultation. The operation will be similar to the one performed on his left shoulder at the end of 2018."
That left shoulder injury plagued Marquez throughout the 2018 season and it's feared this recent injury could have a similar impact on his 2020 preparations.
