Dan Ticktum would forget motorsport if F1 chance doesn’t happen

Dan Ticktum has said he would forgot motorsport if he's unable to realise his dream of getting to Formula 1 in the next few years.

The British driver was dropped from Red Bull's junior programme this year after he failed to perform in Japan's Super Formula series, leaving his chances of making thr jump to F1 in tatters.

However Ticktum says things are moving in the right direction with a deal in place for 2020 – believed to be a Formula 2 seat with DAMS – which he believes could open some doors in F1, but if it doesn't, he'd be willing to give up on his motorsport dream.

"We’ve got something sorted, I can’t go into more detail than that," Ticktum told Motorsport.com.

"F1 is the end goal. If I can’t get to F1, I’ll probably – unless I get a very good deal in something else – I’ll probably forget motorsport if I’m honest.

"You never know when you’re in the situation, if you don’t get to F1 and you’re given an amazing Formula E contract, you probably wouldn’t turn it down."

The 20-year-old revealed that a "few teams" had confirmed their interest pending his performance in 2020.

"I’ve had interest from a few people and a few teams, they’re all saying more or less the same thing, which is 'go and prove yourself in what I’ll be doing next year'.

"Hopefully if I have a good year next year I think that will open a lot of doors. Even Red Bull’s, who knows."
