Renault Formula 1 protégé Christian Lundgaard will step up to the Formula 2 championship for next weekend’s season finale in Abu Dhabi.
Lundgaard, 18, has been affiliated with Renault since 2017 and placed sixth in this year’s Formula 3 standings.
Lundgaard’s junior role with Renault also led to his first outings in Formula 1 machinery as he sampled its 2017-spec car during private tests in Hungary and Spain.
Lundgaard will replace Ralph Boschung, who has taken part in eight of the 11 rounds held so far, in a car that has also been occupied by Ryan Tveter and Dorian Boccolacci this season.
“I’m proud and excited to make my F2 debut and would like to thank Renault Sport Academy, Trident and my partners for their faith in me,” said Lundgaard.
“Stepping into a championship at the last round is going to be a big challenge, but it will be great experience.
“F2 is a big step up, the racing is always hard-fought and you need to think strategically on how to turn the races to your advantage – I’m looking forward to getting started and seeing what we can do.”
