Senna Proctor has reacted to his surprise British Touring Car Championship ‘opportunity’, with Sam Osborne unable to compete at Thruxton.

The former Jack Sears Trophy winner has been Osborne’s coach and NAPA Racing UK’s reserve driver since the start of the season, having left Team VERTU in 2025.

Prior to his drive in the VERTU Hyundai, also starting at Thruxton last year, Proctor last raced in the BTCC in 2021.

Osborne, who currently sits P17 in the Drivers’ Championship, was forced out of action for the entire Thruxton weekend after feeling unwell.

“We’ve had a driver change this morning, so I’ll be in the NAPA Racing UK car this weekend.

“Sam Osborne is feeling unwell, so first and foremost we all hope he gets better soon and the main priority is his health.

“I didn’t want the opportunity to drive the car in this way, but here I am. A bit of a frantic morning, looking forward to getting going, seeing what the car can do around one of the fastest circuits in the UK.

“As usual with me, in at the deep end and we’ll see what we can do over the weekend.

“We’ve got a lot of track time, we’ve got the new format of racing and qualifying and all that sort of stuff to contend with – no option tyre this weekend.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do.”

Proctor started his weekend stay in the Ford Focus by setting some strong laps during Saturday’s only Free Practice session.

Proctor set early benchmark laps near the top of the leaderboard, but others pushed his best time down to P14 – leaving him less than a second off the session-best set by Chris Smiley in the Restart Racing Hyundai.
