Aeroscreen testing concluded at hot and humid Sebring

IndyCar concluded aeroscreen testing on Tuesday with Dale Coyne Racing and Arrow McLaren Racing SP at Sebring International Speedway.

The fourth and final test was conducted by three drivers in the form of four-time series champion Sebastien Bourdais and the Arrow McLaren SP 2020 pairing of Oliver Askew and Patricio O'Ward.

Conditions were hot and humid around the infamous bumpy circuit, providing ideal conditions drivers would experience while racing in the heat of the summer months next season.

The previous tests at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Richmond Raceway and Barber Motorsports Park were all intended to provide to replicate conditions the drivers would experience across the 17-race campaign.

Scott Dixon and Will Power took part in the initial test at IMS; Ryan Hunter-Reay and Simon Pagenaud tested at Barber while Josef Newgarden and Dixon ran at Richmond Raceway which will return to the NTT IndyCar schedule in 2020.

“In races, we drive through clouds of debris, particularly on speedways and superspeedways, so I think this is a massive step (in protection)," said Bourdais. "It’s a much safer place for us IndyCar drivers – I think everyone is pleased with it.”

“You can barely tell the screen is there because it’s pretty clear,” O’Ward added.

“Obviously, it’s a bit more enclosed, but you see everything you usually see. The eyes kind of look around the halo, so you don’t really notice it. Once you’re pushing, you don’t really see the Aeroscreen.”
