The Automobile Club de l’Ouest today announced the return of Silverstone to the World Endurance Championship, alongside its 2027 calendar.
Britain’s premier track will return after eight years out, where Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López took victory.
Aside from expanding to nine races with the addition of Silverstone, the calendar remains the same. The British GP circuit will slot in as Round 3, on April 25th.
“We are excited to be returning to Silverstone next season, and I would like to thank Stuart Pringle and the British Racing Drivers’ Club for making this comeback possible,” WEC CEO Frédéric Lequien commented.
“Silverstone is a venue steeped in motorsport history and boasts a long legacy of top-flight endurance racing, including eight hugely successful FIA WEC events from 2012 to 2019. It is a circuit beloved by competitors, and from a driving and engineering point-of-view, it presents a tremendous challenge.
“Not only that, but British fans are famously enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the sport, and we are delighted that they will once again be able to enjoy the indescribable thrill of a World Championship round up close on home soil.”
WEC reveal nine-race calendar for 2027
WEC has seen impressive growth through recent years, with world-famous marques returning to the series and fandom booming.
The return of Silverstone marks yet another exciting expansion, with the track now able to host both Formula 1 and WEC once more.
“The FIA World Endurance Championship continues to go from strength-to-strength,” FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem remarked.
“In recent years, we have welcomed new manufacturers to the grid, seen growing interest from fans around the world and maintained a stable, competitive calendar that showcases the very best of endurance racing.
“The return of the 6 Hours of Silverstone next season marks an important milestone for the championship. Silverstone is a venue with a rich endurance racing heritage, and its return reflects both the continued growth of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the increasing global appeal of our sport.”
