Maximo Quiles put on a dominant display as he claimed a fifth victory of the season at the Hungarian Moto3 race.
Quiles overtook polesitter David Almansa on the seventh lap of the race and never looked back, as he converted to win by 3.147s before a last-lap red flag was thrown out.
A red flag was brought out on the final lap after a crash between the riders in podium contention, with Valentin Perrone, Brian Uriarte and David Munoz all involved.
Almansa was unable to start from pole position last weekend after suffering from illness, but made the best start from the front this weekend and led at Turn 1 over championship leader Quiles.
The riders safely made it around the first corner, but two separate incidents throughout the first lap saw Guido Pini, Ruche Moodley and Hakim Danish exit the race – while both Level Up MTA riders Matteo Bertelle and Joel Esteban dropped down the order.
The opening chaos saw the front order split into pairs, with Almansa and Quiles breaking away from the chasing Tech3 KTMs of Rico Salmela and Valentin Perrone.
After Salmela overtook Perrone for third, the duo began to close in on the leading pair, cutting the gap to under a second.
On Lap 7, Quiles struck and passed Almansa for the lead of the race, with the Moto3 championship leader able to extend his lead almost straight away at the front.
Quiles was able to get away at the front, although polesitter Almansa was the only rider able to keep the gap under a second.
However, even the Spaniard’s resolve was eventually broken by Quiles, who dominated the final laps to open up a lead of over three seconds.
As Salmela and Perrone faded from a victory challenge, both Alvaro Carpe and David Munoz closed in on the duo, which ultimately became a four rider battle for the final podium position.
Brian Uriarte also joined the battle as the leading four KTM riders were involved in the fight alongside IntactGP’s Munoz.
On the final lap of the race, the riders were still battling for the final spot on the rostrum, with Munoz leading from Carpe.
However, on the rundown to Turn 12, Munoz made contact with Carpe and crashed on the straight, with the Spaniard collected by Perrone and Uriarte.
The race was red flagged as the three riders were left stranded on the straight, although all riders were reported as conscious as the standings were counted back to Lap 19.
The result meant that Quiles came out as the dominant victor, cruising to his fifth victory of the season and extending his advantage to 59 points.
Almansa could do nothing to challenge Quiles after getting overtaken and settled into second, while Carpe was awarded third on countback.
As Uriarte rejoined the race, he slotted back into fourth, although neither Perrone or Munoz were reinstated in the standings.
Rico Salmela was fifth, while Adrian Cruces finished almost 10 seconds behind in sixth.
Marco Morelli took seventh over eighth-placed Jesus Rios and ninth-placed Casey O’Gorman, with Adrian Fernandez completing the top 10.
Scott Ogden finished 11th after a close battle with Joel Kelso and the rejoining Esteban in 12th and 13th respectively.
Cormac Buchanan took the chequered flag in 14th, while Bertelle rounded out the points in 15th after his early collision.
