Audi's Nico Muller will line up in the pole slot for Sunday's final DTM race of the 2019 season, after qualifying's quickest man Mike Rockenfeller takes a grid penalty.
Rockenfeller set the fastest lap in the very wet session with a 1:50.800, but will drop to sixth after he was shown the black and white flag three times during Saturday's race at Hockenheim.
Muller, who was just 0.013 adrift on his final run inherits the top slot and starts alongside BMW's Timo Glock.
Forming the second row will be Audi's Jamie Green and BMW's Joel Eriksson, with Philip Eng fifth alongside Rockenfeller.
Wittmann qualified ahead of 2019 champion Rast in seventh and eighth, with Robin Frijns and Loic Duval completing the top ten as R-Motorsport's Jake Dennis was the best-placed Aston Martin in 11th, narrowly missing out on a top ten start.
The highest placed Super GT machine was Nick Cassidy, who starts 16th.
The torrential conditions caused some drivers a few difficulties, with Daniel Juncadella and Paul di Resta only managing 17th and 18th after they went off at the Sachskurve, but managed to get going again.
Jenson Button couldn't repeat his impressive performance from Saturday where he started sixth, only managing 19th ahead of Pietro Fittipaldi and Tsugio Matsuda.
