Daniil Kvyat believes his performances through this season have been sufficient for him to be retained by the Red Bull programme on the 2020 Formula 1 grid.
Kvyat returned to Formula 1 with Toro Rosso this season, 18 months after he was axed by Red Bull’s programme, following a second spell at the junior team.
Max Verstappen has a 2020 Red Bull seat but the identity of his team-mate, and the occupants of the Toro Rosso seats, have yet to be determined.
All three of the candidates have Red Bull experience, with Alexander Albon currently plying his trade at the senior team after swapping roles with Pierre Gasly mid-season.
“It is very likely for me to stay in Red Bull programme [or] the Red Bull world for another year at least, and then we'll see,” he said.
“So, whatever way it is going to go, Toro Rosso or Red Bull, I am also… my position in Toro Rosso is very good, because I've done a very good year here with them.
“First podium in many years. So, it makes me feel very good in this team. What will happen in 2020 we will see.
“Obviously, those questions are a bit early to ask exactly, where I am going to be if something not or will happen.”
Red Bull is thought highly unlikely to look outside of its roster of drivers for 2020, with lead youngster Juri Vips an outside candidate for a Toro Rosso drive.
“Whatever way it is going to go, I'll accept it with respect, the decision,” he said.
“There is no wonder if there is a change to go to a quicker car you usually take it without second thoughts. But we will see. We will see.
“There are many factors, that… some of them depend from me, some of them don't depend from me. So, I'd rather focus on what depends on my and then we'll see.
“The last few races after summer break were extremely good, and then I will try to continue to [do] my best. This year in general was really strong, and then we will see what will happen, but you know with Red Bull there are opportunities are always there.”
