Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton moved to the front of the timesheets during second practice for Formula 1’s Singapore Grand Prix.

Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished comfortably clear of the chasing pack at the conclusion of the 90-minute session, held beneath the lights at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Hamilton’s time of 1:38.773 left him 0.184s clear of Verstappen, with third-placed Sebastian Vettel 0.818s down on the current points leader.

Valtteri Bottas, who crashed in the first session, was a low-key fourth, 1.1s behind his Mercedes team-mate, while Alexander Albon recovered from an early prang at Turn 10 to classify fifth.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was sixth, his car equipped with a new gearbox in the wake of an FP1 problem, while Carlos Sainz Jr. was just a tenth shy at the front of the midfield group.

Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg took eighth as Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly rounded out the top 10, the Toro Rosso returnee a tenth clear of his team-mate Daniil Kvyat.

Daniel Ricciardo was 12th, half a second behind his departing team-mate, while Sergio Perez was the fastest Racing Point driver in 13th spot.

Alfa pair Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen were 14th and 16th respectively, split by Lance Stroll, whose time was identical to that of the Italian.

Haas lacked pace and could muster only 17th and 19th, Romain Grosjean in front of Kevin Magnussen, as Williams’ George Russell got between the pair.

Robert Kubica was at the rear of the 20-car field, seven-tenths down on Magnussen.

Third practice for the Singapore Grand Prix will take place on Saturday at 18:00 local time
