Chip Ganassi's Scott Dixon and Team Penske's Will Power are set to take to the world-famous 2.5-mile Indianapolis oval in order to test out the new aeroscreen on October 2.
IndyCar has worked in conjunction with Red Bull Advanced Technologies to help design the aeroscreen for enhanced driver cockpit protection, building upon the recently introduced AFP system which came in this season ahead of the Indianapolis Grand Prix.
The aeroscreen will be anchored to the car via a titanium frame and will consist of a polycarbonate laminated screen which includes an anti-reflective coating on the interior.
It will also have an anti-fogging device through an integral heating element and possibly tear-offs should the need arise in inclement conditions.
Red Bull Advanced Technologies are also working on a cockpit cooling option to help manage the temperatures during hot races.
Dixon tested a prototype of the aeroscreen in a simulator earlier this season without the screen for visibility purposes.
Plans are currently in place to have the component implemented for the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series season.
