Augusto Fernandez secured his second successive victory after snatching the lead from Fabio Di Gianantonio on the final lap, but remains under investigation for the move.
Fernandez pressured the Speed Up man throughout the 25 lap encounter, but couldn’t get close enough to make a move and looked set to have to settle for second in the closing stages.
He began to make ground over the final couple of tours though, and initially looked to have taken the lead at Turn 2 on the final lap before Di Gianantonio executed the undercut and retained the top spot.
He wasn’t finished though, and despite running wide on the entry to the high-speed Turn 12 made a late dive into Turn 14, pushing the Italian wide and taking a lead he would hold to the line to secure his third Moto2 win of the year.
Alex Marquez followed the pair home in third, although now with a reduced championship lead as Fernandez closes to 26 behind with his win, while Tom Luthi came home fourth after being the only other man to match the pace of the leaders.
Sam Lowes brought his Gresini-run machine across the line fifth-the Brits best result of the season so far- just ahead of the recovering Brad Binder who made up ten places in the race to take sixth.
Jorge Navarro went from 15th on the grid to seventh on the second Speed Up bike, while Xaxi Vierge led home Enea Bastianini and Lorenzo Baldassarri for eighth.
Fernandez remains under investigation for his overtake as he touched the green astroturf on the exit of Turn 12, meaning he was able to open up the corner more than if he had stayed on track and get a better run on Di Gianantonio into Turn 14.
