Gresini Racing rider Alex Marquez stormed to the top of the timesheets in the second MotoGP practice at Jerez.
The Spaniard set a blistering 1:35.704s, over a second faster than Fabio Di Giannantonio’s benchmark from the first session earlier in the day.
Marquez was the sole rider to reach the 1.35s barrier, though Di Giannantonio maintained his rapid pace to finish the session in second place.
Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi finished the session as the top non-Ducati rider, lapping half a second behind.
Marc Marquez lapped fourth quickest, followed by Ai Ogura, team-mate Francesco Bagnaia and the second Trackhouse rider of Raul Fernandez.
Gresini’s Fermin Aldeguer claimed eighth spot, followed by Jorge Martin and Tech3 rider Enea Bastianini.
Only 0.150s separated third through to tenth, leaving plenty of potential for an exciting qualifying session given how close the pecking order is.
Joan Mir missed out on Q2 by the narrowest of margins, closely followed by stable mates Johann Zarco and Luca Marini.
Franco Morbidelli dropped from second in first practice to 14th in second practice, but lapped ahead of Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder.
Fabio Quartararo finished second practice as the reference Yamaha rider, closely followed by rookie riders Toprak Razgatlioglu and Diogo Moreira.
Jack Miller and Pramac lapped 20th, finishing ahead of Alex Rins and test riders Lorenzo Savadori and Augusto Fernandez.
