Lance Stroll says he deserved the same penalty as Sebastian Vettel

Racing Point's Lance Stroll says he should have been given the same penalty as Sebastian Vettel for rejoining the circuit in an unsafe manner.

Vettel spun during the Italian Grand Prix and as he rejoined the circuit, he hit Stroll's rear-tyre with his front-wing, causing the Canadian to spin too.

Vettel was given a 10-second stop and go penalty, which barring disqualification, is the harshest penalty available to the stewards.

Stroll then rejoined unsafely too, forcing Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly to take to the gravel to avoid a collision, but was only given a drive-through penalty.

Stroll believes he should have been given the same penalty because what he did was "identical".

"He got a 10-second stop and go," said Stroll. "I got a drive-through, so I think that is not really fair because it was exactly the same thing that I did.

"I think it should have been an identical penalty," he added.

Explaining the incident, the 20-year-old said the way Vettel rejoined the circuit was "very aggressive" and although he did his best to avoid a collision, insists he had nowhere to go.

"Seb came back on the track very aggressively, I was as cautious as I could be with the yellow flags but he was literally blocking the circuit coming back on the track the way he was.

"I tried to avoid him but I think he clipped me, he clipped my rear-right and that spun me around. From there I came back on without being able to see anyone coming from my right so I tried to get back.

"I was in the middle of the circuit out of Turn 10 trying to get out of the way but I think something happened very similar to what happened with Seb. That’s racing and a lot of things are unfair about racing."
